My desk from Oakywood arrived. Tantalisingly, eight of nine packages arrived on Friday, with the one outstanding being the actual desktop. But then, this morning, that arrived too and I assembled the finished article this afternoon. I daresay I'll write about it, but first impressions are positive.
Be Careful
The world is in a dangerous state. Putin is testing NATO's resolve. Netanyahu is running a campaign of destruction that can only lead to more death and desolation. Trump continues to strip mine the United States, and misguided people are celebrating violence and division on social media platforms. The assassination of Charlie Kirk was a vile crime, and will be punished to the full extent of the law, as it should be. I'd never heard of him, and from what I have learned, I would have agreed with him on little. That does not mean that I would ever regard his murder as anything else than horrific. My condolences go out to all who loved him.
Public discourse is increasingly curated by non-neutral platforms. Those platforms have aims, and use curation to further them whether they be political or commercial. Fostering division works.
What can we do? We can be sensible. Normal. Caring, patient and tolerant. We can seek common ground, we can look to lower the temperature, not raise it. Don't let curation and manipulation fire you up, let love and kindness build bridges. We all share this planet, and screaming at each other is doing nothing good.
Walking
Sunday saw me complete a 12km training walk, and tomorrow, I'll be out again. Debs and I are building up to a 20km walk before we take on our challenge at the end of October. If you can spare a few quid, sponsor us here.
Right - time to get carb-loading...have a great week. Remember, be nice to everyone.
