At the weekend, I was worried that the UK and Europe had missed the National Security Strategy document on the White House website. It is quite a read. The media did get hold of it, and eventually got it onto the front page.
Move fast and break things - but with nukes. What could possibly go wrong?
I'm pleased with myself in that I have got beyond disbelief and fury now. For the record though, I should note a few things.
Neither the UK nor the EU is being swamped with anything (apart from quite a lot of rain) and nor is it going to lose its identity or civilisation. The UK, Europe, indeed the world has always been characterised by change. Man evolved, and gradually spread across the world from Africa. Migration, in all its forms, has constantly shaped the world. Ask any Native American from 1450.
The United States was founded on the principal of freedom. The enthusiasm and good-naturedness of Americans remains their greatest strength and weakness. More and more, as the evidence unfolds, they note that the current administration is saying one thing and doing another, picking their pockets all the while. Eventually, the continued abuse of the American people will be stopped. They won't stand for it.
In the meantime, valuable lessons have been learned elsewhere. Appeasement has not worked with Putin. It was never going to. The countries he threatens (that's all of us) must now mobilise and destroy him. With or without American help.

You know, the dog days between Boxing Day and New Year's Eve, where the only real requirement is to eat and drink all the leftovers. I use these days to review the year that's ending and work out what I want the new year to bring.
I recommend it. There are some great tools out there - I like Shawn Blanc's stuff. Wisened old fellow that I am, I'm happy with less structure in my own review. A notebook, pencil and sharpener works well. Thoughts just flow out.
Every year - I find myself looking to be more intentional. Using my time better. I'm pretty sure I'm over half way through life. I have less years to go than I have already had. This lends a certain urgency to things. Do I need to amend my analogue system? Find a new digital tool? Probably not, but I'll look nevertheless. Sunsama looks fun.

Will 2026 be the year? Will the book get published? Of course, this time, I KNOW it will.
Definitely.
I have a plan and everything.
Then again, my ability to procrastinate (which is essentially a posh way of saying "I know it won't be good as I want it to be and everyone will hate it") is extraordinary, and recent history would suggest that bold statements have zero impact on actual output. Still. I'm determined.
Make no bets though.

I daresay I'll bother you again before 2026 rolls around, but before it all gets going, have a fantastic holiday if you're getting one. Merry Everything and all that.
If you're one of those who keeps the world turning while everyone else takes time off, thank you. You're the best.
