The Digest 22/06/25

I'm not sure where the world is now. Trump has waded in to a Middle-Eastern conflict, and I daresay there is more to come. A tense time.

Quietly replacing the US
While Trump sets up negotiations by imposing tariffs, or threatening invasion of allies, or blaming Ukraine for being invaded by Russia, the rest of the world is disengaging from the US in every sphere.

Ah yes - I'm doing a walk on Saturday. Click on the post below if you feel moved to sponsor me (in a very good cause, of course).

Begging Bowl Out!
The Soldiers’, Sailors’ and Airmen’s Families Association offers support to serving personnel, veterans and their families. These people put their lives on the line to keep us safe, and deserve our support.

Reading

I finished Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. The book was a gift from a committed Christian, keen to "point me to Jesus", as she wrote in a lovely dedication with the book. Rather than a novel, or a treatise, the book is a collection of radio broadcasts that C.S. Lewis made on the BBC during the Second World War. As such, it is an accessible exploration of Christian theology. Although persuasive, I remain outside the communion of the church. While I understand Lewis' argument and rationale, I do not find them compelling.

I'm onto Nausea, by Jean-Paul Sartre. A philosophical period it would seem.

Exercise

Summer has arrived, signalling the end of my golf season until things cool a little at the end of September. I'm still playing Padel, trying to get courts either very early , or very late, but blimey, it's hot. I suspect I'll be going some more swimming through the heat.
